    Pythagoras did not considered the beans sacred, that claim is ridiculous.
    He avoided only a certain type of bean. Many ancient Greeks (and some todays Mediterraneans) suffered a condition in which  a certain type of bean could be poisonous to your blood, even the plant pollen had the power to kill you.
    I know because I suffer from the exact same condition….
