The word 'thing' was originally of Viking origin. The word referred to a meeting of village leaders to discuss problems that occurred within the villages and solutions to the problems. The meeting was called "Thing"

The only time Vikings would wear horns on their helmets is during rituals.

I'd really prefer it if these videos would stop including 'the Vikings discovered North America' as if we didn't know. EVERYONE knows this, every kid learns it in school, it's not a shocking secret. You can go to the excavation in Anse aux Meadows and see the site, it's not a surprise to anyone who was awake in school. (Please, no comments about Indians being there and thus the Vikings not discovering it… it's all a matter of perpsective.)

Interesting that in Celtic society women had equal status with men as well. They even fought in battles alongside their menfolk. It is when Christianity arrives that women become subservient in many societies.

Pretty much everybody knows about the horned helmets, but most people don't know that a lot a cultures had horned helmets, but NOT the vikings … Also they wasn't used in battle. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horned_helmet)

It has been suggested that vikings inhaled fumes from poisionuos mushroom, which made them go mental, but this probably isn't true …

The vikings actually taxed (blackmailed) England, giving the English the choice between being pillaged or paying up huge sums of money (alltogether some 60+ tons of silver). Because of this archaeologists have found more of these coins in Denmark (43,094 km²) than in England (130,395 km²). (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danegeld)

Also theres a stronger connection between oldnorse and the english languages than just some of the days of the week:
"Traust me, þó (though) it may seem oddi at first, we er still very líkligr to use the same words as the Vikings did in our everyday speech. Þeirra (their) language evolved into the modern-day Scandinavian languages, but þeir (they) also gave English the gift of hundreds of words." - https://www.babbel.com/en/magazine/139-norse-words
…Maybe even Russia has its name from viking settlers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rus%27_people)

Also contrary to popular belief (even in scandinavia) the vikings weren't (just) savages but skilled merchants, trading with large portions of the world, and explorers, knowing about currents of the atlantic ocean which helped them settle (at least for a brief period of time) in America around year 1000. (http://www.sourcinginnovation.com/archaeology/Arch07.htm <—- Great read)

They were also extremely skilled craftsmen, perfecting the longship which was quick to build and very fast due to the narrow size. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longship)

Funfact: Bluetooth is named after a danish viking king. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harald_Bluetooth)

One popular myth that you might have encounterd is that all the vikings had blue eyes, it is not true, there where some brown eyed vikings aswell but only like 15% of the vikings population.

and allow me to add one thing. The vikings mainly plundered for about a third of the time they ruled. the other time was mainly used for trade and diplomacy since they dound that getting supplies was easier through trade than it was through pillaging.

Celt (North Irish type Airghialla II) but don't care about my ethnicity.
Celts was used as slaves by the Vikings (is this a superior behaviour?) but at this time, Celtic civilization was not agressive and more advanced than Vikings one.
They played a high role in education of young vikings, mixed with the Vikings (The proportion of R1b is important, specially in Norway) and have diminished the level of "warrior genes" in the Vikings genome.
This was a happy mix: Modern scandinavians can thank them for this!

Geneticaly, it's not ethnicity or visible characteristics that defines civilizational qualities but BEHAVIORAL markers.
Ethnicity is just on Y chromosome for males or mitochondrial DNA for females.
This is a ridiculous proportion of the genome (less than 2% for the males and even far less for the females) compared with autosomal DNA.

It's a nonsense to glorify the warriors minded like this and imagine they was "superior".
It's the opposite: There is NO glory to be a warrior!!!
Geneticaly, the "warrior gene" was very present and useful during the prehistoric period when fighting ability to survive was more important than the ability to build a modern civilisation.
Now, the warrior gene is considered as a brake to civilisation and a genetical problem impacting on delinquency.
See the link about "warrior gene" here: http://www.snpedia.com/index.php/Rs909525

The real KEY to build a modern civilisation is EMPATHY.
Again, geneticaly, the lack of empathy is a mental health problem.
See the link about "empathy gene" here: http://www.snpedia.com/index.php/Rs53576

All the psychopaths have a problem with these two markers.
If a new negative eugenist dictator would exist now, only Rs53576(G;G) and Rs909525(A;A) could survive.
Mental sicks like Hitler and other TOXIC leaders devoid of empathy would have been eliminated themselve.
… But negative eugenism will never exist like this because dictatorship is not in the behavior of a Rs53576(G;G) + Rs909525(A;A) civilized person.

Ethnical, clanic or racist policies are really unrational and unscientifical.

vikings didnt even actually wear horns on their helmets, everybody thinks that they did. they didnt wear horns on their helmets because it could easily get knocked off by sword or axe in combat.
